What is Resilience?
Resilience is the ability to spring back from life’s challenges. If you are a resilient person and you experience hardship, you will likely feel stressed and overwhelmed, but your overall sense of self will not waver, you will lean on your social supports as needed, and ultimately you will return to previous levels of functioning.
While people with trauma backgrounds tend to experience many setbacks in their lifetime, with many opportunities to spring back, they also tend to get bogged down by their pasts, and their overstimulated nervous system makes it difficult to cope.
How counseling can help
If you feel like you are not bouncing back from adversity, therapy can help you set the path toward healing. Our work together will focus on helping you learn to self-soothe, develop social supports, connect you to your real self, internalize more positive narratives, and maybe even reprocess the trauma that has been weighing you down since childhood. In short, I would like to help you become a more resilient version of yourself.
